The Little Things

I don't know why getting a blog started for myself has been so scary.  I guess partly because I worry that people won't like what I have to say, or I won't write what I want to say because I worry what others will think.  So... with much pondering over this, I have decided, "What the hey!" and do it anyway.  (Which is precisely what Mother Teresa says.)

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

I love to write.  I try to write a little every day.  I once told that to a superintendent at a job interview.  He said, "like what... Erma Bombeck or something?"  I said, "I keep a prayer journal".  After that... he said not a word.  I didn't get the job. 

Some day I want to write a book.  My little sister, Jackie, reminds me of Matthew Kelly's words, "I think everyone has a good book in them."  Ha!  Maybe, just maybe, that is me.  I'm going to give it my best shot.  I can only hope the Holy Spirit gives me something to say!

My grandfather passed away at 97 recently.  He had 96 years of good health.  I can only hope for that.  He was a good and humble man.  He did good and wonderful things, many of which I never knew about until recently, but it made me so proud to hear them.  I feel so blessed.  He passed on a legacy of goodness, just by being who he was.  It was mostly the little things, but I think we can easily underestimate the value of the "little" things. 

This reminds me of a time when I was at a prayer meeting, and I was so inspired by a friend's testimony, that I whispered a prayer in my heart, "Jesus, do something BIG with my life!"  To which He responded, "I already am... everyday... in the lives of your children."  This really stopped me where I was at.  It's not the big things He cares about, it's the little things that we do every day to show that we love someone.
